If you want snappy on an Atom/ION, you really need to go OpenELEC. I've been running MQ3 on an Atom/ION booting off a USB stick with no problems.

BTW - Does the DVD drive fit with no problems with the heatsink retention clip facing the front of the case?

The only problem with OpenELEC, is that I like the main HTPC to have my usenet apps (SAB, SB, CP). I haven't installed them on this A6-3500 rig yet, but everything else about it is light years ahead of my Revo. Browsing the web in Windows is the most noticeable. Also, just flipping through all the menus in XBMC is 100% seamless. So far, I'm extremely happy with the upgrade; especially considering I'm selling the Revo for $250 next week!! Smile

Here's some pics of it with the DVD drive installed. It's not even close to touching the retaining clip. Although, it is quite a bit more crowded in there now!!

And here's a pic of it in my coat/AV closet. Don't mind the wire mess in the background. I still haven't cleaned out all the excess crap from when I cancelled DirecTV last year. Rofl

One of these days, I'll clean up the wiring behind the components. (Ya, right!!)

Now you guys see why I didn't care too much what the case looked like??!!

I haven't monitored temps yet. I want to wait till I get SAB running, and see how hot it gets while it's going nuts with downloads, UNRARs, and post-processing scripts with SB and CP.

What is the best app you guys can recommend for accurately monitoring CPU temps? Also, what is a safe temp? 55 C?

No problem.

CASE: Apex MI-100 4BAY Desktop Blk/Silver 250W ATX12V Mitx $54
MOBO: ASRock Socket FM1/AMD A75 FCH/SATA3&USB3.0/A&GbE/Mini-ITX Motherboard A75M-ITX $90
APU: AMD A6-3500 APU with AMD Radeon 6530 HD Graphics 2.1/2.4GHz Socket FM1 65W Triple-Core Processor $70
RAM: Kingston Technology HyperX Blu 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM (Kit of 2) XMP KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX $28
CHASSIS FAN: SilenX EFX-12-15 Effizio Silent 120mm Case Fan $15
SSD: OCZ Agility Series OCZSSD2-1AGT60G 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) No longer in stock

I haven't had any problems with my SSD, although a lot of more experienced people on this forum seem to hate OCZ. I bought it for my Acer Revo 3610 at the time (September 2010) because it came highly recommended by Poofyhairguy, who is one of the Hardware Gurus on this forum. He loved OCZ SSDs back then. I'm not sure how he feels about them now, as he isn't very active here anymore. Sad

If I was to buy a SSD today, I would get one of the ones that eskro has listed in this post. Specifically, this one:

SSD: Crucial 64 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT064M4SSD2 $82

Some people here say 30GB is enough for XBMC on Windows, and they're right. I need more, because I run usenet apps that need more storage space for temporary files while downloading. I've even ran into a couple problems where my 60GB SSD filled up, and the downloads failed. So, if the 64GB Crucial drive is only $20-$35 more than a 30GB drive, I think it's worth it to have the extra space. You never know what you might get into later that requires more GBs.

Oh, also, the DVD drive I put in is just an old one that came out of a dell desktop:

Samsung TS-H653F 22x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive (Black)

I probably wouldn't even put one in if I didn't have this one laying around. With usenet, we haven't used a disc in a long time. In fact, I sold all my DVD collection at a garage sale, because they were just collecting dust. If you want to put in a Blu Ray reader or writer, just pick something from eskro's post.

Good luck! Hope this helps!! Big Grin

I actually loved watching all those guys. Weird how you didn't name the best one (Jerry Rice) Eek

But I've been a Raider fan since before we had a team here in AZ. Back when Bo Jackson was a rookie running people over. Man, imagine what he would have accomplished if he played full time, and didn't get hurt so early in his career. He actually called football a hobby, because baseball was his career.

Anyway, Niners look good, just not sure about Alex Smith. It could get uncomfortable now since they were looking to trade him and get Tebow.

Raiders are in complete rebuild mode right now since Al died. Hard to imagine the team without him. It will be interesting to see what they do this year.
