Hi Guys

Apologies if this is a silly question, but am I right in thinking that all I need in order to be able to play movies from a NAS drive is a jailbroken Apple TV with XBMC installed? I read something to say that I also need some software called ATV Flash installed as well, but this costs $29 and I don't want to buy it if I don't need it!

You won't need that no. ATV Flash offers other things as well as a media player, you do not need it for XBMC. It makes XBMC a little unstable if you install the ATV Flash media player as well so it is recommended that you don't even have it installed. The people that release ATV Flash (firecore) also make the jailbreak (seas0npass) but it is all free.
