Option to switch between HDMA and Optical/Coax
#1
Hi guys
I spent more than a week trying to solve this problem
I have an onboard inte-hda in P5N7A-VM mobo (integrated NVidia 9300)
Everything works fine if I am using the HDMI output..
However I have an 5.1 receiver and for some movies prefer to use it... but not for all movies
If I use Ubuntu's Sound manager and select the appropriate card the appropriate output works like charm
But I want to be able to use either one either the other from the Sound OSD menu
I bought a second card with the idea to select it for Optical and leave the onboard one for HDMI but.. again..
No matter what I select in the Audio output it always uses what is set in the System->Settings->Audio->Select Audio card

I remember being able to do so long time ago with external VGA that took SPDIF from the onboard video.. The if I selected HDMI the sound came from my TV, if I selected Optical the sound came from my receiver.

The second card is Asus Xonar DG if that matters..
I am running 32 bit Oneiric Ocelot using Eden vanilla
I have no /etc/alsa.conf or .asoundrc
Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Niki
