Remote stops working. No sound on startup sometimes.

I am currently running XBMCbuntu 11.10 and problem is after listening to music for a while without touching or using XBMC, the MSE usb remote sensor stops responding to the remote control. Assume its power or sleep mode. When this happens the keyboard is the only option I have to control XBMC. Music is still playing and XBMC works fine, yet remote sensor is frozen and will not accept any commands from remote. To fix this I have to always reboot the HTPC to get the USB remote sensor and remote control support working again.

Also on bootup of HTPC. Sometimes the sound does work at all. EG error initializing sound hardware or no sound at all can be heard. Again rebooting HTPC restores sound.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

The sound issue may be an HDMI handshake issue. Have you tried a different cable?

Sound hardware is as follows. I am using PCIe card with toslink audio. Not audio over HDMI.

Anybody got any ideas on this one? This is getting really annoying, randomly not having any sound on startup.

I don't change any settings at all. It works fine, shutdown and come back later on or next day, turn on and XBMC just fails to initialise sound hardware on startup when I try to play any media. I have to keep rebooting computer and trying media before I am able to get sound working again. 6 reboots has been the max attempts so far before sound magicaly starts working again.
