Here is my attempt to improve the user experience of standalone xbmc box like Crystalbuntu, XBMUBUNTU etc.
I have only coded the wired network configuration though it should be possible to add wireless support later.
Limitations:
Can only configure the first network interface
Requirements:
Linux running network-manager >= 0.8. If network-manager failed to comment out defined interfaces in /etc/network/interfaces under ubuntu/debian you need to do it manually.
Permissions
It should work with non-root user providing setting your policy kit to allow the following actions (auth_admin_keep) for the user to run xbmc
org.freedesktop.network-manager-settings.*
Tested
Tested on raspberry pi running debian squeeze and ubuntu 12.04 on pc.
How to use it
Download the zip file from http://xbox-remote.googlecode.com/files/...anager.zip
install the addon within xbmc. If that failed extract the zip file to your addon folder and restart xbmc. You should found the "network manager" in Program. Just launch it.
Bug reports
I need your xbmc.log and syslog
