I have been wondering the same thing.. On XBMCbuntu and can't figure out a way to upgrade so I can get the latest skin...

I'm not familar with XMBCbuntu but as far as i know you can either compile from source or i THINK there is a PPA for the bleeding edge stuff.
Seriously though, i would not go for the latest nightlys / bleeding edge unless you need it for something, for example i need it for passsthrough audio, a skin is a nice thought but probably not worth the trouble....
