XBMC Data Usage
#1
Hi,

I recently installed XBMC on my HTPC which runs 24/7. It seems as if something is fairly data hungry. Avg about 400MB per day. Which in South Africa is bit too much.

I know this might be because of first time installation and all the fan art, but I would like to hear what other users with a stable library experience.

Is there a way to monitor the data usage? A plug-in of sorts maybe?

Thanks

I don't understand how HDD storage usage can grow 400MB per day on its own unless you are pro-actively adding content to your library or downloading content over the Internet (e.g., torrents). Do you have any add-ons that download content? Do you use your HTPC for other non-XBMC functions that may download data behind the scenes? If you have a dedicated XBMC system and your library is stable, about the only things that will "grow" with normal usage are the logs, but they should be insignificant in size.
I just re-read your post where you said (emphasis mine):
Quote:Avg about 400MB per day. Which in South Africa is bit too much.
Are you referring to 400MB per day in network traffic rather than HDD storage? If so, are you watching streaming videos or listening to streaming music using the various XBMC add-ons? That certainly could account for the traffic volume.

I meant network traffic, but I agree that there must be something eating away, because whatever the data is, it is not stored n the drive. Will check something I thought of just now and reply again.

all in bluray so you see every detail Wink

On the subject:
It really depends on what you use XBMC for. Like already said using it to stream media costs a lot of data traffic.
Scraping movies/tvshows also does it's part as doe plugin/script/weather updates.
