Port XBMC to Android OS so that it can run on Google TV based platforms and such?
Starstream Wrote:I think it's an Amlogic 8726 box which I believe you have already, they are all over the place now, official and unofficial clones of Geniatech ATVxxxx players. Android 4.0 is available for these devices but is is only a beta release at the moment.

Details please, there are many aml based boxes out there.

ULR to the box would be helpful.

There is now a jailbreak software available for Sony's Google TVs, it is called "The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter" and gives you root access as well as letting you run unsigned kernels, which could nice to try out if you happen to already have a Sony Google TV lying around and want to give this porting job a go.

http://forum.gtvhacker.com/announces/topic645.html

According to the GTVHacker blog, the following modifications are included in this tool's custom kernel:
Quote: Modified flash plugin with random per box flash string for Content Provider Bypass.
Crippled update feature to prevent box from receiving automatic updates.
Completely RW system, cache, and rootfs partitions
Full ADB Root
Removed signature checks on kernel / init scripts / init binary
A few other surprises.
BETA: Enable NTFS Support for Sony Google TV devices (see wiki for instructions on how to add: GTVHacker.com: Sony NTFS)
It's worth mentioning that, in order to achieve root on the latest build, a downgrade (and four 512MB+ flash drives) is required.

GTVHackerIf you own a Sony Google TV device and you’ve been looking for a way to improve your experience with the set top box, you’re in luck. The folks over at GTV Hacker have managed to successfully root the device and release to the public “The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter.” In case you’re unfamiliar with rooting, it basically gives superuser permission access to folks on their Android devices. With it, they can access files they normally don’t have access to, and install custom kernels on them, in this case – the Sony Google TV device.

The GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter introduces quite a handful of new features to the Sony Google TV: a modified flash plugin with random per box flash string for Content Provided Bypass – which basically means access to services like Hulu and other network TV content that is blocked on Google TV, a crippled update feature to prevent future automatic updates, read/write access to all partitions of the device, NTFS support and more.

Quite a useful hack for your Sony Google TV, but it requires a lot of reading, preparation and four USB drives to do. And yes, it voids your warranty. But if you’re keen on undertaking the task, head over to the GTV Hacker blog for more details.

Early Google TV adopters looking for root access can get it easily on their Sony units, thanks to the just released GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter. Unlike brute force hacks we've seen so far for the Revue, this is an all-software method that requires (only) four 512MB or larger USB sticks to get the job done. Once completed the developers indicate their unsigned kernel includes a modified Flash plugin that will let users stream all the Hulu and other network TV content that has otherwise been denied the Google TV, plus other tweaks like optional support for NTFS formatted drives. It disables automatic updates, but users can still switch back to the stock software by resetting the unit in recovery mode. Once you've dug up your Sony Google TV remote, hit the links below for all the software and instructions necessary to get the job done although as always, YMMV.

I have Ubuntu running on my Fascinate and I can access either an LXDE or Gnome Desktop through VNC on the phone or my computer, I've tried adding the XBMC for ubuntu ppa into the sources.list and installing, but it failed.

Is there anyway to port XBMC to Ubuntu for Android as the native desktop?
