Yes this is a known issue (or was a known issue).
We were importing and resizing 100,000+ new covers to the site from musicbrainz which stretched the resources a little
I believe we have one of the biggest collections of covers now of any site. Next up is a discogs importer
Good news is its all finished now and the content is much improved for covers.

Continuing to move things forward:
I've just added a new artwork type which is Artist Cutout.
Its supposed to be a simple transparent PNG image of the artist or band. Its nice to have on the front page I think as well as on media centers ect.

Since the image is only 500x500 you can use the free https://www.remove.bg/ to create the image.
