XBMCBUNTU vs. MCE remote
#1
Hi there.

I've installed XBMCBUNTU and discovered that now my MCE remote don't work anymore on the 11.0 eden edition, I've been in the remote control config and tried just about
all the configurations in there but none work, after lots and lots of google (ing) on this subject it looks like that the new kernel of ubuntu has changed the way it "handles" remote controls.

Why oh why was this not tested before moving to this core of ubuntu? it's very logic that people want to be able to remote control their media center"
is there a list of working remotes for XMBCBUNTU ? coz I was not able to find one in the wiki -

the XBMC team owe us big time for this bug ;-)
I have to say that the rest of XBMCBUNTU is truely awesome!!! , never before has a my mediacenter been so smooth and complete, it preforms very very well even
on a small PC like mine , the Zotac Zbox ID4+ , 2gb ram, 128 GB SDD, dual1.8 ghz it just looks kind of stupid that I need a keyboard hooked up to control it hehe

Just to update:

I have the Haupauge Media Center remote kontrol kit : http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Fil...ppauge.jpg

Does anyone got this one working with XBMCUbuntu ? and how did you do it?

I have a programmable remote, didn't have remote control issues with official eden. My remote has used a standard MCE remote key set for years.

You could look into http://flirc.tv/. I bought one, haven't yet converted from my MCE buttons to this yet but planning to. Figure Flirc is a cool device for future proofing remote control (both for remote and xbmc).

Otherwise look into LIRC commands that show raw IR signal/button presses (can't remember the commandline), and start troubleshooting... first making sure the computer is getting the IR commands and go up from there.

I have the same remote, and it worked "out of the box" with XBMCbuntu. I know that may not sound very helpful, but you might need to consider that you have a hardware problem.

Tobor: that is quite helpful - coz if you got it working then it seams like the remote is compatible with xbmcbuntu, so I'll look into the hardware part.

I know that the remote works on a windows PC = My remote is working
I know that XBMCbuntu can see the remote = it can detect the hardware

So what is left to check is:

* That the remote IR gets the commands from the remote
* That the remote got the right profile in dpgk-lirc config (spelled wrong, I know)
