Does Real-Time TV Guide exist?
#1
Pretty basic. Is there a program or add-on the will show me what's on my local cable provider's networks in real-time?

Once you have a good HTPC going and abandon cable TV, it seems the only thing missing is the surprise factor. Not knowing what's coming up next or finding new shows. With a lack of commercial bombardment I find myself missing out on some good stuff until a friend tips me off.

If anyone knows how to do this I would be so excited. Please leave any info or links that may help me with this.

There's always the on-line sites that provide TV program schedules and descriptions, such as: http://www.tvguide.com/listings/

If you're looking for something that integrates with XBMC, I'll have to defer to others to provide input.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I saw something similar at one point, but I think it only showed the listings in Denmark.

The correct way to get real time TV guides is to read the service information from the broadcast, this is how TVs etc. do it.
The PVR extension to XBMC should do that when it is complete but I don't know when that might be.

I used this (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add-on:TV_Guide) for a while and fed it an XMLTV file generated by mc2xml. the best thing to do is get a PVR branch and integrate mythtv or some other form of live TV so you can also tune to the channel within XBMC. I use mythtv within XBMC but only have free OTA channels so I am limited to what channels I can tune to...
