Newbe with some MAC Mini vs. Atv2 questions
#1
XBMC crew,

First my apologies if this should be posted somewhere else.

Ive recently came across the XBMC service and havent had the chance yet to purchase or to sway my decision on going the Mac Mini route or Atv2 route. Yes, the cost, but I would like to ask the following questions that I havent seen while doing other searches.

Ideally I would want to use an old PPC 10.4 Mac to store all of my videos and use Atv2, so I would not need to purchase a Mac Mini.
* How does XBMC go and search my hard drive for video files from videos that I have imported? Do I need Plex?
* Does XBMC and Plex work together as one connection?
* Wirelessly on one connection can a Airport Express handle all that streamingHuh

I would use Handbrake to convert the DVD's.
* But, when the file is complete and I get it into the "movie" folder, are there any updates/refresh with XMBC that are needed to see the files and what should the files look like when completed.

Is there anyone out there who has a MAC set-up with the specs that they have used to share?? I would also like to look into a "portable unit" for my spouse to use in her kindergarden classroom (especially using airplay). Is there a way to hook up a portable drive like a seegate (mini usb) driveHuh

Thanks for nudging a newbe into the right direction.

It uses scrapers that connect to the internet (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add...he_library). You don't need plex.

They can, but are not designed to. XBMC does everything itself.

Yep, Scan for new items

I reckon you should try reading the quick start guide as it has a lot of info for first time users: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM...tart_Guide

I literally just wrote a guide with a video that should be pretty helpful.
