Video refresh Rate on HDMI XBMCbuntu Nvidia
#1
I recently connected my XBMCbuntu based system to an HDMI monitor, via HDMI. It has an Nvidia 8400GS and worked fine on VGA , even auto swiched refresh rates as needed, however on HDMI I have something strange happening.

1) When I load the XBMCbuntu GUI, I get 60hz as default refresh rate, however when I logout and load XBMC directly my refresh rates are from 50 to 53hz, and nothing of 60hz. In the Nvidia settings I can see that 60 hz is available, however in the monitor settings panel I see toe 50 to 53 hz ranges available. It seems that XBMC is using these settings. I would like the refresh rate set based on content and do not want to limit it to refresh rates such as in an Xorg.conf. I would like to have both 50 and 60 hz available at the same time for both PAL and NTSC content.

2) It seems that the screen changes . For instance if I set the display at 53 hz and adjust the screen corners , later I might find that the top of the display gets cut off. In that screen adjustment I can see it is still at 53 hz, but something else appears to be changing (Sync?). This change can happen from simply starting a movie.

Thanks for any help

The same happens to me. Every time I reboot my PC the screen resolution drops to the 50hz and I have to manually change it back to 60hz. The main reason for changing form 50hz is the image appears to flicker on my 42" TV. If anyone can help with this issue I would be great full.

try these xorg.conf the top one is from another thread, and the bottom one is my own one from a while ago. Both are good on my ION system, and my GT240.

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.backup
sudo wget http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=L2W4excC -O /etc/X11/xorg.conf

or my other xorg conf:

sudo wget http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=ct8ycWXu -O /etc/X11/xorg.conf
