There are many good remote options available depending on your budget,
I just went with the cheapest possible one and have 2 of these for my XBMC machines:-

They are pretty basic but hey they work straight out of the box

Others will have to advise you on the best to get if you want something a bit more complex with more functions.

Can someone help me with what is a good keyboard and mouse enumerator I can install on the Iphone & Ipad instead of buying a wireless keyboard and mouse ? I have been looking at things like HippoRemote and Eventghost but am a little lost on some of it. I basically want to use it with IE to surf the net. I have installed Advanced Launcher and attached IE to it but since I am running system in "Clone" monitor mode it really doesn't need to go through XBMC at this time because I can just use the TV as the monitor while in the living room.

Not so much a keyboard / mouse but an option that would give you full control of the htpc and use the ipad's native pop-up keyboard is teamviewer
