A question in the category: What is that called, and how can i make use of it?

In for example reAlaska. If you put your mouse all the way left of the screen something happens.
Like viewtypes could come out or the menu hides ect.
I tried to find info on how to use this, but i don't even know what to call it...
Same goes for mouse movement during playback, that makes the OSD pop up.

The mouse move during playback is a specific mouse event.

The mouse left and something happens is done by buttons (perhaps invisible) becoming focused, which triggers an animation to slide out a menu.
