I have a Windows server with the harddrive with my media. I want to make this drive accessable to a XBMC client (ATV) via Internet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be done? I was thinking about setting up VPN and just mount it as a regular share, but i have a feeling that won't work very stable (if ATV is able to set up a VPN connection at all)
BTW, I do not mean to set up a transcoding server, just accessing the files normally. The server has 50Mbit upload, so bandwidth is not a problem.

Use ftp or http, works for me without problems.

But how does it work when it's searching for content? I guess that will consume a lot of bandwidth and be really slow? Could it be smarter to have the local PC do the scraping and have the remote PC just access the database? So that they share the same database?

Well - it will only consume a lot of bandwith for the first time, after that there are only updates which are not that heavy.
However - you could also use mySQL and connect against the db (which again is being hosted by the XBMC-Server). This way you will have the same shared library. I'm not sure what solution is the better one though.

XBMC Frodo Guide. It contains full featured guides to Sickbeard and CouchPotato as well.

Streaming 720p over 10mbit down seems to be no problem here. Only problems during rush hours.
SD never gives me any problems, not even during rush hours. I use https. Content is on a 100mbit server.
