This has been happening to me for the last month or so and I've been noticing this problem with other "unofficial" plugins as well. Maybe the plugins are just being blocked by the services they are scraping. I'm going to just give up and use something else and maybe in the future when XBMC is back to its previous ultimate HTPC solution self I'll try again, but now I'm just not going to try. I don't have the energy to file bug reports and sift through pages of "solutions" that don't pan out. I just want to enjoy watching movies.

I have tried every "fix" mentioned so far and I am not able to connect to the server either myself the last 3 days. Seems there is nothing that can be done.

Have also noticed that TVDB has become more and more flakey the last couple of years. Is there an Alt to TVDB? Is there a scraper for TVMaze, which seems a little more stable?
