Just installed XBMC on Windows XP, crashes at startup
#1
This is the first time I've installed XBMC. After installation I tried starting the program but only got a black screen for a few seconds and an error indicating XBMC has experience an error and needs to close. I've searched through the board and I have tried possible fixes recommended to other people but I still can't get it to start.

XBMC v. 11.0
Windows XP SP3
1GB RAM
2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 processor
10GB Storage available.
Nvidia GeForce 6200 (supports pixel shader 2.0) DirectX 9.0

I've removed DVDs from my optical drives and virtual drives and my drivers are up to date.

Here's the log http://pastebin.com/TGpNwAyH

I'd really like to get this up and running so I can play with it. Any suggestions?

Install the older XBMC Dharma version, somewhere in between Dharma and Eden, XBMC broke without anyone noticing.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't wait to start using it so I ended up installing v.10.0 last night and it all worked fine. I'm loving it so far but I had a couple quick question that you might be able to help out with. Taking in to account the age and limited power of my system, are there any must have add-ons or skins that I should install to get the most out of the experience? I like Confluence but I feel like there should be a more streamlined and sleek interface. Also, is there a "handbook" or guide to tweaking and customizing online somewhere?

There's a lot of information in the FAq, Wiki and online manuals... Yes there is a lot to love. If you're into streaming video some of the add-ons might suit (just be careful and try each one out one at a time, most add-ons are now Eden only) Navi-X would be on my list, but I don';t think it's available from the central repro anymore http://code.google.com/p/navi-x/downloads/list and hopefully a version of weather underground works for you. I always thought Transparency! was the best skin, but if you have a remote Aeon Nox is really a visual grabber.. again caution as most of the skins have evolved to needing Eden. I would mention searching tools... use Google with the expresson "XBMC item/issue"

Somewhere in these forums I thought I saw a build of Eden that does work with XPS3, not sure if it's still available or not.

Are you using this machine for much other than XBMC? It's just if you're not, then it might well be worth looking into giving a Linux distro a try. Not only will you be able to run Eden (+), but it should be lighter on resources than XP (especially if you pick a lightweight distribution).

I'm not trying to advocate Linux for no reason, but if you're just keeping an old PC useful, Linux might just be what you're after.
