Problems with Video calibration on plasma display
#1
hello people

i recently build a htpc and got a new plasma display samsung 60e6500
now i know the overscan on tv's and that i can turn the tv onto 1:1 pixel mapping aka full screen
but this turns off my burn in protection.
so i went in xbmc and did video calibration and problems started pouring down.
when i get the corners right *with the white lines* the middel square isnt square and when i get the square to be perfectly square the picture just doesnt fit my screen i dont know what im doing wrong or what is more important to get a nice crisp picture

thanks in advance ^^

Well 1:1 pixel mapping is as good as it gets but I wouldn't use it when it compromises burn in protection. I'm sure the makers have engineered your panel with the final image optimized so that pixel mapping should not be a concern. Sounds like your pixels are rectangles and not square, pick up a test image to display with your PC (http://www.getdtvready.com/images/test%20pattern.jpg) with a large circle in the middle and just make sure the circle resembles a circle... A lot of movies start off with a large circle or sphere so you can get and idea of the proper aspect before the entertainment starts.. here's a quick calibration tool kit.. http://kat.ph/hdtv-calibration-inhd-home...02998.html which can be run inside of XBMC then using the tools provided with the XBMC video calibration, adjust to fit.

Once you get everything scaled and aspect normalized... switch over to 1:1 pixel mapping and tell us what you think, is there distortion? Does the Aspect change... is it sharper etc. Your input will help others.
