Hi. Just moving over from mediabrowser to xbmc.
In mediabrowser they had an option called ehs (enhanced home screen), which would show tv series/movies (under separate tabs) that have been recently added and unwatched.

Is there a way to have recently added & unwatched appear on the home screen?

There is a "Recently added" menu option for movies, TV shows and albums. Depending on skin setting, you can have recently added items shown on the home page. Some skins support the Add-on:Watchlist (wiki) that shows unwatched episodes of TV shows, partially watched movies and most played albums.
