Linux Output to higher resolution TV
#1
Hi,

Well this is my first post, so I'll just say that I think XBMC is awesome and I'm looking forward to contributing something back to the project!

Now here's my problem. I'm trialing xbmc on my laptop which is 720p (Emachines E732). My TV is 1080p. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. I want to watch a movie in 1080p on the TV. When I connect the TV via HDMI it shows up as a display alongside the laptop screen, ie it extends the desktop area. This would be ok if I could "fullscreen" xbmc in the 1080 area, but I can't. It still has borders at the top and bottom. I can of course select mirror displays, but that means that the output is at the laptops resolution, 720p.

What I want is to play in 1080p on the TV, and turn off the laptop display. Is this an xrandr thing? Are there any good resources to help me get it set up?

Cheers guys.

Welcome to the XBMC forums.

Currently multi-head setups are broken on Linux. You need to use xrandr and disable your laptop display, enable output TV, and then start XBMC.
