Looking for an ultra small low cost device for running XBMC as an early xmas gift for a family member. What are general thoughts about (1) CuBox or (2) Raspberry Pi or (3) CubieBoard or perhaps something similar? I'm somewhat partial to the CuBox.

I heard XBMC doesn't run well on the CuBox, and the CubieBoard is an A10 SoC so it's a no-go for hardware playback (vital if you want to watch anything without stuttering). Raspberry Pi or Pivos XIOS DS are your best bets.

I was reading that there's already an XBMC variant for the CubieBoard in development and the hardware supports MPEG-2 decoding.. It might still be OK..
