Win No sound when selecting WASAPI
#1
I had to reinstall Windiws the other day. After reinstalling XBMC sound wouldn*t output via wasapi anymore. Directsound works, but not for movies with hd sound - they just stutter and the hd-indicator on the reciever flashes but not getting a clean signal. I've been trying several versions of XBMC, including the 12 beta 5, that used to work before (now using beta 6). I also hve rolled back the ati driver to previous version that worked before, but with no result. I finally tried the stable version and the wasapi option actually worked here, but movies with aac sound just stuttered (and ofcorse here is no hd passthrough option). Windows settings should be ok.

Any suggestions? I'm confused.

Thanks

I'm running Windows 7x64
cpu: amd e-450
gpu: radeon hd 6320

Make sure you're using the ATI driver and not the Realtek one, then check your settings are similar to Post #3 in http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141569

If still not working post a debug log, see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_file

Realtek driver was the problem. I was tricked because it shows the same list of supported formats in the property window as the ati driver does. All is fine now and I will sleep well tonight. Thank you very much for the help!

Both drivers support all formats on Windows which is why Supported Formats would have been no different between the ATI & Realtek drivers, however there are two methods for implementing wasapi with XBMC now using the newer event driven model. Realtek drivers however do not support this event driven model for wasapi, hence the ATI drivers which do must be used.
