Xbmcbuntu+Nvidia 335M+sound over HDMI= Not a happy threesome (Sound not working)
#1
Hey,
I have installed XBMCbuntu on my laptop (GPU Nvidia335M)
I have also installed latest Nvidia drivers and sound over hdmi is not working at all

Here is the weird thing (at least for me)
when I configure audio device as any Audio output device (except for hdmi 3), I received message "Audio failed to initialize, Check audio settings"
When HDA NVidia - hdmi - 3 (alsa) is set as audio device, sound is still not working but there is no error message, so I guess hdmi3 is the right device to try.

Any idea?

thanks a lot

make sure you unmute everything in alsamixer

Common issue in EDEN xbmc, it will probably take a xbmc with AE to support your setup out-of-box, or at the very least a few tweaks into a /etc/asound.conf. (im not familiar with the workings of alsa config files, so I wont venture guesses. However many a post has been done in forums about this very problem.

This worked for me:

In System Settings -> Audio Output:
Audio Output device: Custom
Custom Audio Device: hdmi:CARD=NVidia
Passthrough Output device: Custom
Custom Passthrough Device: hdmi:CARD=NVidia

The only problem I have is that when I playback some music, on every second song, the audio device fails to initialize. When I skip the song, the next one play back normally.

Again its a EDEN issue, use a AE build or put up with it.
