Hi,

I currently run and old core duo setup and as of late it has been real slow with xbmc. I have decided it is about time I get myself a better setup thinking how much I use it! I use the HTPC for basic SNES emulation, 1080p films plus I do watch a lot of shows which are encoded as 10bit h264's. Currently I have to re-encode them to 8bit as the cpu is too weak to be able to play them. So I was thinking I really require something we decent enough cpu grunt for these tasks.

Lian Li PC-Q07 (suspension mount a low rpm 3.5" hdd in the 5.25" bay)
PicoPSU 120W (already own)

Intel G860
MSI H61I-E35 m-itx motherboard
4gb (2x2gb) Corsair XMS3 1600mhz memory
~60GB SSD
Scythe Mugen 3 (Can run that size cooler due to picopsu)

How does the above look? As you might be able to tell I am after a silent setup really with low power use when idling. Is it worth going for Ivy Bridge, ie do they run that much cooler?

Any input is welcome!

Why not mount the 3.5" HDD in the 3.5" HDD bay at the bottom?

Also, look at the PC-Q11. It solves a lot of nits I have with the PC-Q07 (all those little screws?!?!)

Be sure to pick up one of these for mounting the power jack:

Reason being that using elastic suspension method is the quieter than using the proper mount. I use the same method in my main pc too and I noticed a nice improvement to noise levels by doing that.

Yeah I will make an adaptor plate like that, make it nice and neat!
