[RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins
(2016-05-03, 07:51)Huxely Wrote: https://github.com/hirsivaja/plugin.video.areena

Have you created Yle account in the yle site and requested API-keys for usage? And have you put the keys to the plugins settings page?

The original unofficial Szymex plugin does not work anymore. The currently working is Hemmus original plugin that Hirsivaja has improved greatly and is based on official YleAPI. No live, news or sport with it unfortunately.

Thanks, I was able to get Areena running with these instructions. What about the other plugins, Katsomo and Ruutu? Are there any active projects and would it be possible to contribute?

I don't think there are any other methods to watch Katsomo than using a browser or Android/iOS app. Even Flickfetch cannot download from Katsomo.

(2016-04-14, 07:27)Huxely Wrote: The sorting could be improved. If you use series search, you can find the series you want as a directory, and not only separate episodes. If the TV Show directory would list the contents same way, as series directories and the separate episodes inside them, it would rock. For example if you open TV Shows - Foreign - you would get about ten separate directories named after the series, which would contain the separate episodes. Currently you get all the episodes from all the series.

I dont know if it is easy to implement in the TV Show listing, or could we use the Series search with some wildcards or tags to show all the relevant shows in separate categories. Like make search of all the foreign shows, documentaries, kids shows and get a more compact list that way.

I tried to implement this, but since the API does not support searching for the series with any criteria this is not doable at the moment. One implementation I tried was that I load all the programs for the specific category and then sort them by the series (grouping one series as one item). This implementation kind of worked, but was too slow. For some categories it meant loading thousands of programs in patches of 100 (100 is the maximum amount the API offers per query). It took over a minute for the largest categories.

Actually with inputstream (new feature in kodi 17) it is probably possible someone make working katsomo plugin. See this post on flix2kodi github for more details https://github.com/logi85/plugin.video.f.../issues/43

It might also be a good idea to decompile Android's Katsomo app for some hints unless the critical parts are in binary blobs.

I asked about this from yle by email, and suprisingly I got an answer saying it is not possible at the moment. But what comes to News and sports, it is in the documentation that these categories are not available through this public API. Don't know why, but so it says on the Yle API site.

Edit: got an answer from yle about the livestreams not being available through the API at the moment.

You can get the IDs of the livestreams through the old version of the site. I don't know how long those urls will work, but at the moment they are ok.

http://areena-v3.yle.fi/tv/epg.json?kana...-tv1&kpl=1
http://areena-v3.yle.fi/tv/epg.json?kana...-tv2&kpl=1
http://areena-v3.yle.fi/tv/epg.json?kana...eema&kpl=1
http://areena-v3.yle.fi/tv/epg.json?kana...-fem&kpl=1

The ID is in slightly different format. You need to append 1- in front of those for it to work with the new API.

The livestreams that are only shown in Areena are found from http://areena-v3.yle.fi/tv/suora.json

Here is a plugin that i made for live YLE channels HD http://bit.ly/1TdwHbz

Hi everyone. I am new to the world of Kodi. I am looking for Finnish TV channels that can be watched on Kodi. If anyone could help a newbie out it would be appreciated. I would need help on how to install the add on if it's available.

Hi guys!

I've been using the splendid plugin Retrospect for several years to watch Swedish channels' "play content" (ie: programs already aired that are watchable online) and live streams of channels. Retrospect contains play channels for several countries in Europe, but not Finland. I'm suprised no Finns have yet found it and suggested to add YLE and other Finnish channels. I myself have suggested to add YLE 5, the Swedish channel. Retrospect already has the framework you need. Wouldn't it be better to help the developer of Retrospect to implement all Finnish channels possible in Retrospect?

Some links:
Retrospect webpage: www.rieter.net
Retrospect forum: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=25522
Retrospect on Github: https://bitbucket.org/basrieter/xbmc-onl...tatus=open (<<< This is where you would create an issue and suggest to add Finnish channels.)
My suggestion to add YLE 5: https://bitbucket.org/basrieter/xbmc-onl...in-swedish

Also, last year I found out how to "spoof" most of the Swedish channels' geoblocking when being abroad and it was implemented in Retrospect. No VPN or proxies needed! It works for YLE too (tested; both play content and live streams) and will most likely work for other Finnish channels too.

You might want to mention this forum and Hirsivaja's github page on your feature request.

Nice work!

Where did you get those urls for the channels? Do you think that they are permanent or do they change regularly?

You can install Ruutu and Yle Areena plugins. They are distributed in zip files. For instructions look here or here if you are Finnish.

The zip files can be downloaded from:

That seems to be quite interesting plugin. I would not mind seeing it also support Finnish channels. I think most sense would make to implement Katsomo support. With Katsomo one can watch programs from the Finnish TV channels MTV3 (not related to MusicTeleVision, MTV), SubTV and AVA. Currently we have somewhat working plugins for the other main Finnish TV channels.
