Win ASRock CIR Remote Installation - Cable required ?
#1
Hi All,

I'm eagerly waiting on a Asrock FM2A75 Pro4-M based system to arrive and I'm now working my way through posts here to clear up a couple of remaining questions.

I've searched through this thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=111310 on how to power on/off via remote and since this ASRock MB has the CIR header, I am going to order the ASRock Smart Remote (http://asrock.com/mb/spec/card.asp?Model=Smart%20Remote) and use my Harmony One (that http://myremotesetup.com/EasyZapper/New/Main.asp says supports the ASRock Smart Remote) for powering on/off & XBMC control.

What's not clear to me however is how to connect the CIR header to a USB port on my SilverStone GD05B USB 3.0 casing. As far as I can tell there is no such cable supplied by ASRock with either the Smart Remote or the MB. So how does this work ? I found this cable: http://www.amazon.de/USB-Adapterkabel-In...ters_img_b that seems to be sold with the Smart Remote on Amazon.de. Is this the right cable ? Where / what / how does this attach to a USB port where I can stick the Smart Remote receiver ?

Once I find out where I can, I'll update my signature to list my build.

Someone must have faced this basic question before Huh

Thanks eskro. I found a review of the SilverStone GD05B USB 3.0 at http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/revie...05B_3.html that has a picture of the case showing the supplied front panel USB cables. Hopefully one of these will work with the Smart Remote. I'm wary as these are USB 3.0 ports but I'll update with my results. If this doesn't work I'll be exploring your Rosewill based solution !
