Remote

Hey guys...ive droned the "how to" forums etc...but there is so much going on and didnt find anything on the first 3 pages I searched so feel free to move this. I was wondering if it was possible to fully control xbmc with a STB remote. I have insight cable and I currently use that remote to turn on/off tv...turn up/down volume...change channels etc. I would like to use it for xbmc..but I stream videos from the pc where i load xbmc onto my remote..Im sure there is a way to do this.

Does the TV support CEC?

You basically have two options, CEC and Flirc (wiki).

I have no idea what those are, sorry. I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500

Link to the sony site with some TV info click
Since my TV isnt super old and has hdmi/pc inputs etc...I assume its CEC able. But I dont use my actual "TV" remote for much except switching inputs...I want to control XBMC w/my cable STB remote.
Yeah, looking at the remote reviews wiki it seems very confusing..and extremely vague... I assume you have to use a remote capable of sending signals (navigating menus, volume etc) to the PC itself since this is where the media center is actually located...right?

Which remote exactly?

Those look like JP-1-able Comcast styles:

As for using the STB remote you would need at least a receiver (connected to your HTPC) that "speaks" the same frequency and signal type as your remote IR/RF whatever

From a quick google, Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 has CEC, which Sony calls "BRAVIA Theatre Sync". You can grab one of these: http://www.pulse-eight.com/store/product...apter.aspx

and in theory you should be able to have a smooth set up with the TV remote controlling XBMC.

As long as the XBMC version in use has libcec support, IIRC Eden doesn't but idk if that's entirely accurate since I haven't used Eden in a million years.

There's pulse-eight builds that work if one still wants to use Eden.

Wait you havent used Eden in ages? I thought that was the newest version of xbmc...I currently have Eden I believe its 11.0? So you are saying Eden wouldnt allow me to use my insight STB cable remote?

Also...live4ever I have the Custom DVR II M2067BX3 remote at this Comcast Remotes its the one with the RED button. Could I use this remote to program to xbmc ?!

@ned Scott...that is too pricey for me. Wouldnt drop $50 on an adapter.

Then I would go with Flirc (wiki).
