PPPoA - Internet Cable/DSL login client?
#1
hiya there

is it possible to have a cable/dsl login client in xbmc ?

it would be really neet to have this in as a my cable modem wont login to the net without a client program and username/password...and there's no network connected to my xbox....i just have an xbox and a cable modem

i have the sourcecode for the login client...how would some1 impliment this into xbmc? could i do it myself (it would take me a while to figure it all out tho...)...or would some1 be willing to show me how to insert the code and maybe a toggle on/off switch in the settings menu ...and have the username/password fields in the .xml ?

this is all guesswork for me..no programming experience...the main reason why i want this is to get shoutcast working again....but i have no way to login to the net

what about buying a router? that way you can have multiple network-enabled things using your cable modem.

lol

i wouldnt know what pppoa means....

i've sent some sourcecode (written in c , under gpl) for the cable login client i use to access cable internet....maybe the xbmc can start an internet connection with this code...the webpage for this source is "bpalogin".....search on sourceforge.net

i realise most ppl would just network their internet connection to their xbox...but this would be really cool....even if you guys showed me how to impliment the code and i could "add" it when i figure out how to compile my own version of xbmc

pppoa (ppp over atm) = direct connection, to connect xbox to internet via a direct connection to broadband modem.
(the other ways to connect is either via a router or internet connection sharing (the later pppoe, see discussion here))

direct download mirrored here: http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/downloa....src.zip

alternative projects to borrow source code for this could possible be:
http://kdslbroadband.sourceforge.net/ ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdslbroadband/ )
http://beospppoe.sourceforge.net/ ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/beospppoe/ )
http://r-tux.sourceforge.net/ ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/r-tux/ )
http://autenticaadsl.sourceforge.net/ ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/autenticaadsl/ )
http://pppoe.sourceforge.net/ ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pppoe/ )
http://pppoa-udsl.sourceforge.net/  ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pppoa-udsl/  )

i'm not a developer myself so i'm not sure how to integrate this or if above code is any good for this task

hiya all

i may have asked this before but is it possible to write a cable/dsl login client for python? i understand that python has been in xbmc for a while now ...and there is a bunch of scripts which i found for bittorrent, news feeds, tv guides etc here : http://www.gueux.net/xbmc-scripts/index.html

so im wondering if a login client is possible? would i just run the .py to make it work? can python be used that way? by putting in a user/password etcHuh?

no, its not possible. dsl need the ppoe (point-to-point protocol over ethernet) protocol to work.
see these threads:

http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....l=pppoe
http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....l=pppoe

ps: please do a search before starting a new thread.

thnx, as the other threads says msdash has ppoe support. i think it can be done with python scripts. i saw in gueux.net they created many python scrpits like bittorrent clinet and some little apps. most dsl uses ppoe to connect and usually needs login/pass and some cases service name.

we could easily add pppoe support... except none of the devs use pppoe so there's no way to test it. Image
