For those of you who don't already know,
Fry's Electronics is a popular brick-and-mortar electronics retailer that started out in Silicon Valley, and that has now, apparently (according to Wikipedia), opened 34 stores in 9 states.
Anyway, if you are lucky to live near one, they have some good deals at present on hard drives, specifically
HGST 1TB 2.5" 5400rpm Travelstar model 0S03508 for $59. Note that these apparently carry a 3-year warranty, which is a pretty important thing to look for if you care about your data.
According to an in-store salesperson I spoke with tonight, that price should be good thru this coming Thursday, 11/29/2012... but then again, the white-shirted Fry's sales people are notorious for giving out wrong answers to almost any and all questions, so take that with a grain of salt.
If you are not near a Fry's, they do ship to all 50 states, but at present I see no way to get this deal from their web site, so I'm guessing that it is designed as loss leader to get you into their stores. (I'll try and find out more about this tomorrow, and will post here if I learn anything.)
Considering that Newegg is selling this same drive for $99.99 and Amazon for $85.31, this is a pretty good deal from Fry's.
(I bought two of them myself tonight.)
I just noticed that Fry's is also selling (via the
web site) an
HGST 3.5" 7200rpm 1TB drive, model 0F10383, and it appears that that also carries a three year warranty. That also looks like it is probably a pretty good deal (but not quite as good as the other one I mentioned above).
