HTPC CPU cooler
#1
Hey guys.

Im looking for a great HTPC CPU cooler.
It has to be low profile.

I currently have a Scythe Kozuti but I dont feel it is adequate enough.
My 17w cpu is still getting really warm, and it has to ramp up the fan speed.

I have seen 2 new low profile coolers come onto the market.
Phanteks PH-TC90LS
and Noctua NH-L9i

Im just wondering of the 3, which would be the best cooler?
There isnt much info on the Noctua as its just come out.

Also I cannot find a benchmark between the 3.

So I'm seeking the experts advice.

There must be something wrong in your build if the Kozuti cant keep a 17w CPU cool. Have you checked the cooler is seated properly and you have just the right amount of paste applied? Is the Kozuti fan working? What temps are you getting?

Yup its installed correctly, and using the right amount of paste.

Temps I've seen gets it up to around 50c (sometimes higher)
Remember tho its in a shelving TV unit.
There is a fan sucking air out the back.

But I just feel it could/should be better.

I use a kozuti on a 65W AMD trinity chip, and the fan will only ramp up with 100% cpu usage. It usually idles around 44C.

Did you check to make sure that your CPU is being scaled down on idle?

Ye in OpenELEC I can see my cpu ramps down to 1.6ghz.
At leasts thats what Linux is reporting.

I just got the Dynatron T459 and it's the best one I've used yet. Highly recommended. It's for Intel 1156/1155. Is this for the i3-2120T in your signature?
