Linux Open source/fglrx ATI driver on Ubuntu
#1
Hello. I tried to install XBMC on Ubuntu with open source ATI driver. But while installing XBMC installed fglrx driver. Is it obligatory to have installed fglrx to run XBMC or it can use any video driver? In other words - is XBMC dependent to fglrx because its installation shows such dependency.

I suspect it wants the fglrx driver for hardware accelecration, Its been a long time since I had an ATI card in Linux (once bitten) so I dont know how mature the radeon driver now is.

You could try building from source, there is a script about that does it all for you ( http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=142337 ) it will remove the depandacy issue I suspect.
