hi im hopeless and cant for the life of me work out how to use an external player within xbmc. i have looked at many thread but no matter what i do i still cant get it to work is there any one out there that can help me,

Welcome to the XBMC forums.

No one can help you until you provide some very basic information, such as:

• Which XBMC version are you using?
  
• Which operating system are you using?
  
• Which external player do you want to use?
  
• What type(s) of media do you want to use with this player?
  
• What exactly have you have tried already in terms of setting up an external player that failed to work?
  

If you haven't already done so, look at the External_players (wiki) article in the wiki to get you started. If you still have trouble, post a copy of your customized playercorefactory.xml file here so others can review it for possible coding errors.
