We've been using the dknight viki plugin successfully for a while now (thank you!), but since 2 days ago (8/23/16) we've been getting failures when trying to select an episode to watch. We've tested across several different shows on viki, and we get the same error with all of them.

We were running julio's 1.1.38 unofficial patch (~5/12/2016). We have since upgraded to 1.1.40, but the problem remains unchanged. We're running on 2.8.6-kodi-2.8.6-Jarvis-16.0 kodi and 4.4.2 android. Stack trace is below.

Has anyone else seen this error? Any ideas about what might be causing it?

Thanks for any help!

Working here. Snippets without full log @ pastebin don't help much, and I don't have crystal ball. Might turn on libcURL logging too to see what viki add-on is receiving from the site.

We turned on libcURL logging and can now see that we are getting a connection refused error:

Code:
21:59:30 T:1867773224   DEBUG: https://losangeles-s02-i01.cg-dialup.net/go/browse.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.viki.io%2Fv4%2Fvideos%2F1055088v%2Fstreams.json%3Fapp%3D65535a%26t%3D1472263170%26site%3Dwww.viki.com%26sig%3Dbcb044da18a851b582ff3892a408c54d75e448ee&b=7

Looking at the python, we can see 4 available urls for this query. We've tried all 4 manually, and get connection refused on each one. We can reach the domain with both ping and traceroute, but the url doesn't seem to work.

Was watching legend of the ancient sword. There is english subs at viko.com but somehow i cant get it to change to english subs running the latest version of viki which is 1.1.40 ir defaults to chinese subs.

Any ideas?

Ripped8585, you can try with this alternative addon for Viki. The two can be installed alongside without overwriting one over another Nod

Looks like it says 100% english subtitles loaded at the bottom right with the alternative viki but then it shows chinese subs again. WTH!! =*(

well looks like this dumbass figured it out.. its cause my font was not ariel based. now it shows chinese and english subs. any idea why the chinese shows up? or is it suppose to?

EDIT never mind it stopped working again didn't change anything =*(

Capturing a kodi.log file with debugging on may provide clues as what the add-on is requesting from viki site and whit is being returned.

sorry for the late reply but it seem that the proxy links I'm using is no longer working. For now to get it working again go into the addon settings and turn off proxy but some videos might be block for your region when you turn off proxy. I'll update the addon once I find a replacement proxy url

All the add-on does is grab the subtitle file from the viki site and tell Kodi to display it. What happens then is entirely up to Kodi, not the add-on. Fixing this sort of problem I think is two-step process:

1. Determine how the subtitle file has text encoding. (Or guess). Possible encodings I think would be
a. 8-bit encoding using the Latin-2 (East Europe) character set.
b. multi-byte encoding using the UTF-8 encoding.

2. Ensure your display text font has coverage for the required characters. I am pretty sure that internally Kodi represents text as Unicode code points, so a Unicode font should display correctly as long as the font contains the needed characters. If using the default skin Confluence (older Kodi versions) or Estuary (Kodi 17) try setting the skin font to "Arial based".

If the subtitle file uses Latin-2 encoding, you probably need to change the settings for subtitles in Kodi. Unfortunately I can't tell you what settings you need for your exact setup. You will have to experiment a little.
