I have a 720p Panny connected to a Pioneer receiver by HDMI. My default in Windows 8 is 1280x720 at 60Hz...when I start XBMC it switches to 50Hz which makes everything blurry looking. Any ideas on why this is happening or at least is there a way to override it?

Have your try tick/untick "Adjust display refresh rate to match video" in XBMC System/Settings/Video/Playback.....
