I just got the show The Killing (2011) and XBMC can seem to find it on Thetvdb. Here is the snippet of the XBMC log for the videoscan portion of that show

It exist on the Thetvdb http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=210171

What i also noticed is that in the log(using Notepad++) every time the name of the show appears, it has 2 spaces between "The Killing" and "(2011)"...maybe that could be the issue.(even though when i paste it in xbmclogs.com it only had 1 space) This is the first time this sort of thing happens to me with a TV show (and i have others that have the year in there name)

- "The Killing"
- "The Killing (2011)"
- "The Killing (US)"

Have you tried the other names?
Also, are its episodes named correctly?

I think something is borked with the TVDB API, no shows seem to be returning search results.

The show was added via nzbdrone which searches thetvdb(the same way sickbeard does). The killing without the year will point to the original danish version.
