Can onboard graphics for i3 bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD for XBMC Linux?

Hi,

I've been searching all over the forums and I haven't seen a definite answer for this. I am looking to build an mini-ITX machine to replace the XBMC machine that I trashed by accident today. I am looking for something that is very small, but with 12.0 in RC2, I would like to take advantages of all the latest and greatest features.

I've always been a Linux user and would like to continue using XMBC for linux, but also create a machine that can support passthrough TrueHD and DTS-HD without using a discrete GPU card. Is this possible? Is this possible for AMD chips on Linux (I've been primarily using AMD for past builds).

Thanks in advance.

BTW - I found this in the forums: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=83840. Is this still possible?

On Linux you need an nvidia board for reliable HD bitstreaming right now. Intel is a work in progress. AMD drivers currently don't offer this at all.

For mini-itx, get an ION2 board (not an ION1!) or one of Zotac's new D2550/D2770 geforce combo boards.

Hmmmm. A little disapointed. I guess I could have added a new card to my old machine before I completely runied it Sad

Here is my new build:

Pentium G645: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819116778
Asus P8H61-I: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813131878
G. Skill Ripjaws X Series - 2x2GB
Apex MI-008: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811154091

I plan on running OS via USB, thus no HDD is needed. Any recommendations for a discrete fanless Nvidia graphics card or is it worth waiting for the Intel graphics support to get figured out on Linux?

(does all formats both audio and video including the evil 1080i)

I can confirm this too. Had an onboard 9400M but wanted to do HD audio bitstreaming. Popped in a discrete fanless GT 610 and it Just Worked, including TrueHD and DTS-HD MA bitstreaming. (There are some dropouts occasionally, but I strongly suspect that is an XBMC bug. Also happens on ION2.)

Cool. Purchased a discrete fanless GT 610 too. Looking to try with my old rig (can't believe I was able to find a replacement Sempron!). Will see how things go before looking to invest in a new machine.
