Hi folks.
New to xmbc... I installed it on advice as I was looking for a good media server that could be accessed by my sony Blu Ray player via the home network. However, the player is not seeing xmbc. Anyone know if this is normal, or will I have to tweak something....?

Use serviio for media serving, free version. It has better compatibility with devices than xbmc.
