Looking for add-on that displays a web page - Nokia Photobeamer
#1
Hi!
Have you seen Nokia's Photobeamer application? It's one of the coolest apps I've seen! You install the app on your phone and then you can project the pictures you have in it to any screen that can access this page: http://www.photobeamer.com
You can see how it works here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBN-yHg7olc
I see that there is an iPhone app for this as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogATgoYwLpo

So the question... is there an add-on that can open web pages within XBMC? I just need a shortcut in my Picture add-ons that will just display this page, which should work as a web page thouth! JScript should be enabled.
I know I can use Advanced Launcher to launch a web browser window and pass the url as command line argument, but this is not very smooth experience!

Hello papadi,

cool idea. But as I see this (correct me if I am completely wrong) this can already be handled with the XBMC built in functions as this is nothing more and nothing less than a share of Wifi access (OK, Nokia's Photobeamer application seems to have a different approach).
Within the QR Code you can store the SSID and the PW of the local WLAN and the app in the Smartphone reads that and connects automatically.

I remember I found a website (could not find it now, but this one can be used as example) which offered generating exactly this QR code which can give SSID and PW. Even the local information can be stored for security reasons (cannot remember exactly).

So my approach to that would be to place such a QR code on your XBMC backdrop and you're done - at least with the iWorld (iPhone etc) as Airplay is already supported within XBMC. Of course you then need to have the appropriate app installed to read and decode the QR code.

For Android users I found that: http://www.redmondpie.com/share-your-wi-...roid-only/
A generator: http://blog.qr4.nl/QR-Code-WiFi.aspx
If someone finds a iOS app for reading/decoding and connecting to WLAN I would appreciate.

just my thoughts ...

It's not working like that. The phone and the PC do not have to be in the same network. One can be with 3G and the other with a normal LAN. If you actually go to that web page and send me the qrcode jpg by email and I scan it here at home, I will be transmitting my phone's picture to your screen! So the add-on I'm looking for is one that just displays that web page full screen, like a browser. That's all.

Ah, I see.
So the point here is not that the photos are streamed to the XBMC app but the photos are transferred to a website which then is displayed on the screen in whatever LAN it is. All that the users need to do is to scan a QR code. This can be obtained at the address photobeamer.com. The site has to be opened on the device on which the images should be displayed in our case XBMC. The displayed QR code needs to be scanned from the Photobeamer App. Then, the selected photos will appear on the other screen in the browser.

So that means for me that probably not a new addon could solve that issue but already existing ones can do that. Have a look at the advanced launcher. Have a look at that thread. There you could figure out how to open out of XBMC the photobeamer.com website and then you should see the QR code and with your app on the phone it should be working.

would be nice to hear if that works,

PS: there is also a App called Vscreens Photo Sharing Beta of Sony Ericsson from the Android Market which seems to do a similar trick. upon opening the website Vscreens.com
PPS: Scalado PhotoBeamer is as you said the App for the iPhone but not free - will wait for a free app to test this someday
