Using a web UI add-on should still work pretty well. One or two of them are even specifically made to work well on a phone screen size. There's one remote app on the App Store just called "XBMC" that had a version that worked on the first gen at one point, at least I think it had an iOS 3.0 version. If you can jailbreak it, I bet someone out there has archived copies of old versions of apps, and might have that one too. I really like that one too, but it hasn't been updated for the newer iOS yet :D
