Guys was watching a movie on xbmc last night when everything froze up on me.
I had to manually switch off the computer and when it restarted it wont load windows,
i get an error msg which says it cant boot and FILE\BOOT\BCD\.
Have you guys any idea on how to start trouble shooting this problem thanx.

Firstly I'd make sure your drive is even being recognised, which you will need to access BIOS to do - look in the boot order list and see if it's there. If it isn't - possibly a dead drive.

If it's recognised then try repairing Windows using the Windows 7 or 8 CD (or presumably earlier, can't remember if XP etc let you repair after booting from CD). Windows 7 and 8 both attempt to rebuild your boot system this way if there's an error I think.

What SSD drive are you using out of interest?

Yeah check the BIOS - sounds like it might be buggered.

I've had problems with 3 OCZ drives now - main lesson here is to back them up!!

Obviously just check cabling anyway but sounds like it's dead. Best test would be putting the drive in another PC and see if it detects.

The OCZ drives have LED lights on them (some are hard to spot) which light up when the thing is plugged in (funnily enough) - green means it's ok, red means you're screwed. Dunno if the Samsungs have a similar system?

(That said, some green-lit OCZ drives are still incapable of booting as they can enter a "panic locked" mode even with a green light which still means you'll need a replacement. But that's OCZ...)

Might be a design flaw

Samsung is one of the only SSD OEMs to sell a triple-level cell (TLC) SSD, the Samsung 840.

sorted was able to load windows from cd and from there i could run chkdsk that seems to have solved the problem for now.

I would be a little nervous about that drive. If you don't already have a backup of any important files (e.g., media) on that drive, you should do one right now while you still can.

Nice! I would get a backup going pronto though just in case something happens again. And do some Google searching to see if other people have reported similar problems - a firmware update may be in order, for example.
