I realize this is a very old post, but I would have answered it if I had noticed it. Sorry about that.

You can use many different microphones. Results will vary. So far the main warning is that you should avoid bluetooth. The quality is generally too low for speech recognition with the engine that we are using. Here are some notes about microphones for anyone that is interested.
