What backend for storage server with DVB-S2 + RPi client ?
#1
hey people,
I m new to XBMC and media streaming over network. Some information and help would be appreciated.

Want to use my HP N40L MicroServer as backend for DVB-S2.

Ubuntu 12.04 64 runs perfectly with it, at least for the purpose as smb network storage.

It has a TBS 6981 dual tuner card.

The driver is compiled and everything is recognized.

Just to be sure that the card is not damaged I installed Windows 7 x64 and DVBViewer Pro works great.

ok back to topic,

what backend do you suggest ?

I think about using tvheadend, or do you have better ideas ?

Clients will be Raspberry Pi w/ OpenElec or Raspbmc (again, any suggestions ?)
and Windows 7

Finally I didnt even decide the server os ... but Ubuntu 12.04 64 or Debian Wheezy 64 seem to be the best for it.

thank you

Hello and welcome,

I'm running MediaPortal's TV Server as my backend with a number of RPI's running RaspBMC. It all works very well for me, easy enough to setup and seems to be very stable.

Cheers

I also tried MediaPortal on WindowsServer 2012, but I could not install MediaPortal on it, problem with NetFramework 3 (officially not supported and I m no friend of dirty hacks)

So linux-based os is preferred.

Finally I set up tvheadend on my 12.04 x64 Ubuntu with Adam Sutton´s ppa.

XBMC 12 RC and XBMC 12 RELEASE both run very smooth on Windows 7 x64 even the 1080p channels.

On the RasPi I first tried OpenELEC ... the channel list is recognized but no video or even audio ... don t know why.

Now I will use RaspBMC on it ... feedback later Wink
