Couldn't find a relevant thread apart from one relating to the andriod app but can't believe this hasn't been discussed before:

Why doesn't XBMC display "Now Playing" screen after playing a music track? Is there a way of doing this as I currently have a button mapped to my remote but really think this should be standard behaviour?
