Hi folks.

Been playing with XBMC on my PC for a while and have decided to take the plunge in creating my own dedicated XBMC HTC. I've been looking through the helpful posts in the forums and on Lifehacker, but it is difficult to find websites that outline the specs, and then to try and determine if they are what is needed. Lazy, I know, but here goes:

Can someone suggest an acceptable computer that would allow me to play my stored video and music files, DVDs (non-Blu Ray) and streaming content (free and subscription)? The other wrinkle is that I am currently dealing with an older television that only has AV or component inputs. In the future I will upgrade the television, but I'm taking this one step at a time.

Thanks for any help.

AppleTV version 1 - if you only have a component inputs.

Will an AppleTV version 1 allow you attach an external hard drive? I keep all of my files on a 1 TB Western Digital drive.

It should via USB. Though I have never used one.

By the way I'm in the same boat as you (Canada) but i have a new TV on order so I'm thinking of going the HTPC route.
