Problem with .avi files XBMC 12
#1
Hi guys,

Even since i updated to XBMC 12 i cant play .avi files. When i try to play they stutter and there is no sound.
I can play .mkv files just fine so this is only playing avi files and i tried many of them. I never had the problem using XBMC 11.

Now i been reading here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid....avi+fails
and followed the guides here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

and the only thing that works is to change my audio from HDMI to Analog and using DirectSound. No other option or combination seems to work.
The funny thing is i use to have on HDMI and 5.1 on XBMC 11 and no problem so what has changed?

I have the latest driver from manufacturer (i got Asrock ion 330) for my soundcard which i admit is old but as said it use to work before.

Hope someone can explain this in a easy way.

Cheers

Actually now even .mkv files are not playing well.

I always liked XBMC for being able to play everything and being robust so i'm sad its not as robust as it use to be. I been using XBMC since the original Xbox and never had problems so i hope i can continue to use this great program.

I include some screenshots incase someone can figure out the problem.

The big problem I see is that Windows reports only Dolby Digital in Supported Formats. I also see a SPDIF device, what drivers is that using? if Realtek then try completely removing the driver, see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

Hi jjd

Thanks for the reply, i actually had missed this point. I checked my drivers and thought everything was nVidia but now when i checked i saw the following:

So what i did now was to disable the top one (microsoft) and in XBMC i set both "Audio output" and "Passthrough output" as DirectSound and it seems to be working fine with everything i tried so far and as you mentioned SPDIF is not visible as an option.
When i tried to change to WASAPI on the above i had either no sound or slowdown so i'm guessing DirectSound is what i have to deal with here.

Please let me know if you have other ideas or suggestion. As mentioned i got a Asrock ION 330 which was actually on XBMC page a few years back so that is why i bought it Smile
I'm considering to upgrade the box later this year though, any tips for other small pc boxes that you guys this is a good candidate?

Cheers /Reza
