Bug CD/CDR/DVD/Blueray mount problems and consistency
#1
Hello esteemed patrons. Wink

I would appreciate some help/colaboration to test a couple of scenarios in your Linux install (12.04LTS or greater) + Kodi (no desktop install) Kodi V14.X or V15.x running.
The tests are looking at 4 specific details (screenshots will determine this)

1 - See what Media types are mounted and listed in Kodi filemanager
2 - See what media types are mounted and listed in Kodi Video>Files
3 - See what content they list (correct or incorrect content)
4 - See what icon type they display if mounted.

For this test you will require 3 disks (Retail ok) for those of you who have Bluray can test an extra disk.

1 Disk should be a DVD movie
1 Disk should be a Music CD
1 Disk should be a CDR with data burned inside .e.g. parted or Ubuntu CD
1 Disk should be a Bluray retail or burned with movie (default structure)
Please pastebin the debug log (wiki) and 8 screenshots you took this data will help me determine the scope of the potential issue..

There are two tests both with debug log enabled, this can be done in one go. Keep the log it would be great if you pastebind the log afterwards.

The tests consist of loading disks via optical drive (no ISO please)

1st Test
Load DVD Movie
Navigate to filemanager and -- see if this disk in listed there. Take a screenshot.
Navigate to Videos>Files -- See if The DVD is Listed there (take a screenshot and check if contents are what is expected of the DVD structure. If not go into structure and take another screenshot.

2nd Test
Load Music CD
Navigate to filemanager and -- see if this disk in listed there. Take a screenshot.
Navigate to Videos>Files -- See if The Music CD is Listed there (take a screenshot and check if contents are what is expected of the Music CD structure. If not go into structure and take another screenshot.

3rd Test
Load CDR with data
Navigate to filemanager and -- see if this disk in listed there. Take a screenshot.
Navigate to Videos>Files -- See if The CDR is Listed there (take a screenshot and check if contents are what is expected of the CDR structure. If not go into structure and take another screenshot.

4th Test
Load Bluray with movie
Navigate to filemanager and -- see if this disk in listed there. Take a screenshot.
Navigate to Videos>Files -- See if The Bluray is Listed there (take a screenshot and check if contents are what is expected of the Bluray structure. If not go into structure and take another screenshot.

You can merge screenshots of same test so it takes only 1 slot on post.
Please post your results pastebin xbmc debug logs and screenshots links with your reply.

Would be great in addition after each media type to get output of
Code:
udisks --show-info /dev/sr[0-9] | grep -m 1 -w "^[[:space:]]*media:" | awk '{gsub(/_/,"");print $2}'

Thank you all for your assistance in advance.

Ok all tests excluding Blueray (because I dont have BD drive.)

13.0-ALPHA1 Git:20130219-7b9ab8a), Platform: Linux (Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS, 3.2.0-37-generic i686

Debug log is with following http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=1045

DVD inserted > Eject > reload DVD (just in case)
Music CD inserted
CDR with data inside

Screenshots show

DVD and CDR never get listed/mounted in filemanager http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/14129
Image
Music CD Gets listed in filemager But incorrect labels
Image

DVD - Music CD - CDR get listed in Video >Files but with incorrect icons http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/13509
Image Image Image

All DVD - Music CD -CDR list the contents Videos>Files of / /dev/sda1 directory which is not content for any optical media only internal drive since optical is /dev/sr0.
Image

The listing of wrong contents is nasty one bringing up context menu and selecting play will attempt to play the Linux directory It crashes XBMC and XBMC spits out curious dialogs

Tests with openelec ok? Ive had issues with mounting blurays in both 12.04 minimal with frodo + openelec 2.99.2, but I use openelec now so cant test with ubuntu 12.04. This thread has alot of the info you want for blurays + 12.04

Sure test away (would be interested to see results), but no, that thread has nothing useful at this time (lets not get sidetracked). Bluray is the last of my list and its a bonus test only included for curiosity and completeness) as I dont have BD on my HTPC.

ping pong did you have a chance to test anything yet. I opened a few reports because a few are quite buggy.
Second post contains tests and bug trac links.

If any dev sees this please advise, since some reports go without feedback and nothing seems to happen.

uNi,
do you really need those screen shots?

No BluRay here, so only tests 1-3:
Test-1, Movie-DVD: "Play Disc" appears in the main menu, DVD can be played. In Video/Files it appears as ICE_AGE_1, when I select to see file structure, I see a mirror of tht root file system.
Output of the udisk command: opticaldvd

Test-2: Audio Disc:
"Play Disc" fine, can be played. In Music/Files it appears as "Audio CD", cd into it triggers a scraper lookup, I see artist/title, can be played. Output of udisk: opticalcd

Test-3: Data DVD:
No "Play Disc" in main menu. In the Video File menu it appears as "0.0 GB Drive", with a mirrored root dile system inside. Output of udisk: opticaldvdr. A data CD gets reported as "opticalcd", but same symptoms.

Pastebin debug log is here: http://pastebin.com/xJ2ndLBe

My workaround for this bug was to wrap "udisks --mount /dev/sr0" and "udisks --unmount /dev/sr0 && eject /dev/sr0" into an advanced launcher program and mount/umount the disks manually.

Thanks for your tests,

Screenshots yes please because there are several different bugs and can only be seen by screenshots.

Play disk button appearing is not an issue tested many disks "button" comes up are playable however other bugs like listing content is incorrect and can be queued to play is not a good thing.

Nah I havent had time to test, Ive been busy with work, although after reading the bug trac and the posts in these forums this is the exact problem we were having in the thread I linked to that you dismissed as being irrelevant. In case others dont read the thread I linked to above, this is what has solved the problem with me in ubuntu + openelec with mounting of disc media.

Create a udev rule:

Openelec

Code:
nano /storage/.config/udev.rules.d/cdrom.rules

Ubuntu

Code:
nano /etc/udev/rules.d/cdrom.rules

And paste the following in

Code:
KERNEL=="sr*", SYMLINK+="cdrom dvd"
KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="udf", RUN+="/bin/mkdir -p /media/disc-media"
KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="udf", RUN+="/bin/mount /dev/sr0 /media/disc-media/"
KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="iso9660", RUN+="/bin/mkdir -p /media/disc-media"
KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="iso9660", RUN+="/bin/mount /dev/sr0 /media/disc-media/"

The RUN parameter can be changed to suit, I suggest to test it it via command line first. The thread I linked to has different examples that worked, but this one is the cleanest and should work on all machines.

Openelec bug report.

The problem is not just mounting eh. its actually currently it doesnt list correct content and context/play seriously borks xbmc.
Incorrect icons are also shown 2+ years old bug at least. so all in all its 3 major bugs with optical media.

A few builds ago the mouting was working fine last known build was alpha7/RC1 who knows what changed but it did and now serious bugs because of this are present. Hence why I asked for user testing and screenshots to ease visualizing the problems and debug logs to show whats going on.

But yes its been dismissed enough and thats why I opened reports though so far no one has replied and its hard to know which developer to cc since vdrfan, ansih and topfs2 all mia and the ones left idk.

Notice how once the disc was browsed it was referred to as GHOST_IN_THE_SHELL. Disc was mounted and readable from nautilus.

Mixed results again... Play disc main menu option did not work for both, xbmc attempted to play memtest86.bin.

No udev rules were used either... (I cant edit my posts above, too many images after the auto post merges)

This is pretty much unchanged, I guess 10 months bump and state that at alpha 12 all these reports apply.
