EasyCap (USB Capture device)
#1
Hello,

It's possible to setup an "EasyCap (USB Capture device)" in XBMC in order to see and record the video provided for this capture device?
(for example old VHS tapes...remember? Smile )

Please give some guidelines how to make it append.

Many Thanks,
JCPF

I am not sure why you would want to record using XBMC. Simply use the supplied software. I am sure you will be able to play it o XBMC.

Some of the PVR backgrounds may be able to do it, although most are geared towards scheduled programming.

There are three main reasons to want to put this capture device to work with XBMC:

1. Have my HTPC has real and total entertainment center. Now, every time I want watch TV, I have to live XBMC and HTPC and work with TV and cable set top box. By cable TV provider just let me watch TV through their set top box so I cannot even thing to buy a TV tuner device (In Portugal we've just 4 free air digital channels).
2. I wan't to be able to use my ambilight system with standard live tv...other programs don't work well with it.
3. I know i can record my videos on other program and after see on XBMC... But XBMC, like in the official description "XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media."...well, I'm just trying to have all centralized in XBMC.

I'm new on the forums as a poster, but I use XBMC since some years ago.
Please think on this has a feature that XBMC seems don't have, and I'm pretty sure that many people can think very useful.
Has you can see, the first reply to this post is from another interested user (tweaker).

There are so many uses you can do from this feature...Just come to my mind right know to have a camera on my baby child room and be able to see if everything it's ok on my tv while watching a movie (or even record it)...

I consider this a feature to be part of a truly home media center...

PS: You said that "Some of the PVR backgrounds may be able to do it..."...what PVR background you recommend i try? (all I had tried, search for a device with tuner to scan channels...)

Well the quality from the device you are using is crap by all accounts.

Does your STB output HD or SD? For HD you are pretty well limited to an Hauppauge HDPVR. Works well with mythtv backend.

For SD something like a PVR-150/PVR-500. You really want something that does hardware mpeg2 compeession. Again they work well with mythtv.

I can't speak for the other backends, as I haven't used them (except tvheadend which i believe requires a digital tuner).

(I said backgrounds, I meant backends sorry).
