Recommendation for Gift XBMC box?
#1
Hello All,

I've been a long time user of XBMC, and currently run an Asus 3610 with XBMCubuntu. I wanted to get my friend an xbmc box but I don't know exactly what would be a good affordable option. My price range is 100-200 total. He currently only plays 720 on a crappy XP laptop connected by VGA to TV. So, most XBMC boxes will be a step up for him. I was looking at the android stuff, but then I read on this forum that it was crap.
So given my price range what would be a good box? I can install XBMCbuntu for him, and he doesn't need 3D movies or gaming.

Thanks,
Surpher

Any particular need for XBMC Ubuntu?

Openelec isnt sufficient?

XBMC for Android is shaping up very nicely if you have the right hardware, so don't discount it yet. That being said, something that is normally Android, like the Pivos XIOS, does run best with XBMC under a linux-based build.

No there isn't a specific need for XBMC Ubuntu, I am open to openelec. Is Pivos XIOS a good choice in my case?

Pivos is a good choice...

and
Arctic MC001 (if you find it for $99 (plus Sd card, Ram and Remote) or € 99) is a great choice...
