So what i've tried so far is,

From System
  • Render method (Various types)
  • Dxva2 on
  • Adjust display refresh rate to match video (On Start/Stop)

From video mode
  • De-interlace Auto
  • Video scaling Auto
  • Post Processing (on)

I have not updated my windows further, as it will be used exclusively as an HTPC, no gaming or functions other than video or music playback. I have tried several videos of different formats and both .avi & .mp4 have studdering, .mkv seem to be ok. I'm not aware of a way of offloading the video (of if its possible) to the video card? I've only discovered XBMC just this week Sad. i've tried to read as much as i'm able too, but i'm only just starting to learn more about this wonderful little program. Any help from the community would be most welcome.

I've moved this from the general to the windows because i believe it to be a codec issue of some sort?

Thanks,

It's hard to say. The two possible causes are Frodo audio output configurations and network issue. Here are some tips- Simplify XBMC configurations......tips on setting up network- post #10....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I still have the same problem with v12.1 (Frodo). Did you find a solution? In my case some full hd videos work fine and others don't. (same for lower qualities)

System:
  • Windows 7 x64
  • XBMC v12.1
  • Gigybyte Z77 D3H
  • i5-3750
  • Asus Xonar DGX PCIe
  • Nvidia 670 GTX

So far I norrowed it down to the Asus sound card. There are two (for me) inacceptable possibilities witch solve the problem. (I've tested them.)
  1. deactivate extension sound card; use on-board sound
  2. downgrade XBMC to previous version 11 and use whatever

This is what I did so far and nothing changed the issue
  • install different drivers:
  • try various XBMC settings (one by one and in combination)
    • audio output: analog 5.1 / audio output device: WASAPI - Speakers... (only WASAPI gives any sound)
    • audio output: HDMI 5.1 / audio output device: WASAPI - Speakers... (only WASAPI gives any sound)
I get sound via my normal pc speaker if I use WASAPI -HDMI... and deactivate the connected HDMI output in windows settings for sound. Same goes for WASAPI -SPDIF..., but I think it gets redirected because the target is deactivated.
concluding: only WASAPI - Speakers... working
    • fullscreen window (on/off)
    • render method (auto and DXVA)
    • hardware acceleration (on/off)
    • adjust display refresh rate (allways/off)
    • sync playback to display

edit: I figured out, that everything runs smoothly when I set the XMBC speaker configuration to 2.0 or 4.0 or 7.1. But that's not realy satisfying.

edit2: problem resolved with v12.2
